Lisle Park District Recognized at State Conference
Lisle Park District received an award from the Illinois Park and Recreation
Association [IPRA] for its participation in the 2007-2008 Environmental Report
Card Pilot Project. Out of the 17 participating agencies, the Lisle Park
District was recognized for having the greatest increase in environmental
initiative programs as determined by IPRA’s Environmental Report Card.
The project is designed to rank the quality of park agencies’ environmental
practices in every aspect of park district operations from fleet and facility
maintenance to administrative and financial practices.
The Lisle Park District increased its score from 36 points in 2007 to 68 points
in 2008. It accomplished this by implementing environmentally friendly programs
such as the ABITIBI Paper Retriever program and working with the Village of
Lisle on the Safer Pest Control project. The district also improved its score by
including recycling bins in several parks, and installing light timers in many
of the district’s facilities in an effort to become more energy efficient.
In 2008, the Lisle Park District Board of Park Commissioners passed a formal
Environmental Policy that was developed to guide the district in establishing
environmental goals that reflect environmental concerns, issues and funding.
Staff also has formed an environmental committee that will continue to develop
green programs over the next several years. If you would like more information
on the park district’s green initiative, please call Mike Toohey at
630-353-4305.

for the content design of its 2008 Brochure Series. The series was designed by
Jessica Alexenko, PR & advertising specialist.
The agency’s 2008 Snowball program, as designed by Minjah Miller, PR & graphic
design coordinator, was also recognized with a 3rd place IPRA Agency
Showcase award for specific facility or event piece.

competition for Illinois Park and Recreation agencies.

meeting for his election to the IPRA Board of Directors. Toohey was first
