Two
Lisle Parks Scheduled For Replacement
The Lisle Park District held two community meetings on Wed.,
Jan. 21 at the Community Center to gather resident input for playground
equipment scheduled to be replaced in 2009.
The district has budgeted $40,000 ($20,000 each) for the
replacement of the playground equipment at Candlewood and New Albany Parks in
Lisle. Installation of the new equipment will take place between March and
October of this year. The new playground equipment will comply with all current
safety and accessibility standards, and will be installed within the existing
playground containments in each park.
The current playground equipment in Candlewood Park was
installed in 1994, and has required an increasing level of maintenance and
attention over the years. New Albany Park's playground was installed in 1992
and much like Candlewood's equipment, has begun to deteriorate.
The existing playground surfacing in both parks will be
removed and replaced with ADA compliant woodchips. New playground signs will
also be installed.
During the community input meetings staff collected
suggestions for the parks from parents and children. “Residents can help pick
the color scheme, theme and suggest what type of components they want to see in
their park,” says Scott Hamilton, parks manager.
Staff will prepare bid specifications based on resident
feedback as well as various minimum design standards that will help ensure the
equipment will provide not only high play value for the residents, but also
years of low maintenance for park district staff. "Based on previous projects
in other district parks, participation from playground manufactures is high and
has proven very beneficial in providing some terrific options for the selection
committee," says Adrian Mendez, facilities and safety manager. Once bids are
received, residents will then get to vote on which playground structure they
most prefer.
